I'm Baaaaccckk!

So here it is. Some three months since my last post, and you ask, where ya bin Nit? I've been working on this. That's right, say hello to my little friend. I would post pics with the case side on, but you really aren't missing much there. I bought almost everything brand new. What all is there you ask, well, let me tell ya.
Lets start with the case, its an AMS CF-7639BK. Not much to it. It was $40 and it has front USB, firewire, and audio. You just can't find that on a case for that price. Its solidly built too. Its all aluminum except for the front face plate. Well built indeed. Next we move on to the motherboard. Its and Asus A8N-SLI. Yep, I had to go SLI, just no getting around that. Now CPU. For that I enlisted the help of an AMD 64 3200+, 939 pin flavor of course. I thought, get low, and OC the crap out of it, when I get a new cooler. Right now I just have the stock, which you can get some OC out of, but I like to keep the Temps under 40 C, and so far they haven't gotten above 39. Its nice. Oh another thing on the case and even in the other pics I'll post you can't see it. There are 120mm fans at the front and the back. I got rosewill fans with white leds. I wanted to go with that color for the lighting. There is a block of nine leds on the front of the case that you can make out. The eight on the outside of the bloc
k are blue, and the center is the hd light, which is of course red. I didn't plug in the blue leds, instead just left them unplugged hoping that the white light would come through. It doesn't but something else cool happened. The hd light, when it blinks, will actually create a starburst pattern, by leaking light into the others. Its pretty. I may one day pull that plate out and take the blue leds off and solder white ones in, but that's a project for another day. Here's the front and interior views.
Lets move on shall we. In the front you see a DVD-Rom and DVD burner. Both Lite-on and have worked beautifully so far. I have had a few coasters on DVD's, but not many so far. I thinks its just because I bought from Wally World. You can see my USB thumb drive hanging out the front as well. Its a one gig stick. I have a friend with 512 stick and fell in lust with his, so I had to have one. I got that after we got our tax return. Now on to the inside again. The memory, you can see it just barely, the two white slots, are PC3200 dual channel Geil memory. 1 gig all told. Very snappy performance. And yes, I have had Linux in there as well, so not just in Windows. Ubuntu is what I had when I was testing it, and it was very nice. There are two hard drives you can see. One PATA, one SATA. I had to wait on the SATA for a few days longer than I cared so I installed windows onto the PATA and unfortunately couldn't get Ghost to transfer over to the SATA, not sure why, but doesn't matter. The SATA houses my documents, and emulation. I have about 55 Gigs of Emulation. Arcade and Console. Both drives are 120 gig. When Vista hits, I'm going to reinstall to the SATA as the primary, but till then, this works. Now for the last but certainly not least, the Graphics Card. We have a EVGA Geforce 7800GT with 256 RAM and the copper heatsink. This card doth rock! I've run everything that I can throw at it on max setting and its run like a champ. Mind you, the best I have is Fable and UT2004. But they both run on full settings with no trouble. I just love this thing. Don't get me wrong, I loved my old computer, she had just reached her limits, and I really do wish that she would have survived for Linux testing, but what are you going to do. And I know most of you noticed the horrid wiring in my case. I had it better but had to do some moving in there and had to cut all the zip ties that were holding it beautifully in place. I'll get that back in order and make some more shot for ya. Till then, be good, and keep you dog off my lawn.
